Antique Indian Teak Wood Plantation Chair

A fine example of an antique Indian teak wood plantation chair, dating from c1920. In great original condition, with lovely patination and restored using traditional techniques and the finest natural wicker weave materials. The design was created to optimise the comfort of the occupier during the Raj, by allowing air to circulate around them whilst they relaxed during the very hot and humid weather. Some come with extendable arms so that the legs could also be raised.

These chairs could be found at one time on every tea plantation veranda in India - hence the name. Today they look wonderful in conservatories and summer rooms, as well as in lounges, hotel lobby's and are often used for TV and Film purposes.

As an old piece and there are some historic repairs and age related marks and wear and tear as you would expect. Please be sure to check all photos as these form part of the description.
